The Evening Skincare Routine (for Oily Skin)

It might seem ridiculous to some, and definitely a chore for others, but it is the price to pay for your skin's health.  So, we can deduce that morning skincare is for protection from the unexpected, but what is your evening skincare routine for?

Your evening routine is so that your skin can recover and heal faster.  Think about it, all you need to do is prepare your skin for the next day.  Put another way, it's like sleeping.  If you have a lack of it, your whole day is a struggle. More specifically, your evening skincare will help improve cell turnover, cell regeneration, and help a whole slew of other skin problems.  Of course, there isn't a guarantee that it will cure it, but certainly treat and maintain it.

You'll probably notice that some of these steps are a repeat of the morning routine, however, you will definitely realize that your needs may vary from day to night.

The Evening Skincare Routine (for Oily Skin)

Step 1: Use a Cleanser

Definition: Removing dirt, grime, sunscreen & make-up.

Note, you don't have to use cleansers, but if you want to, here are some reasons why you should.  First, you'll probably want to use a stronger cleanser since your day brings in more grease and grime, especially when you wear sunscreen.  The second reason is that you wash in different places.  You're probably safe with a double cleanser evening routine, a stronger one for the grease and grime you accumulated during the day, and a more gentle cleanser to remove that extra dirt your first cleanser missed.

Step 2: Use a Toner

Definition: Gently further cleansing the skin.

Similar to the morning routine, it is a great way to take that extra gunk off your face.  Getting up with a fresh feel.

Step 3: Use Moisturize/ Night Cream

Definition: To make (the skin) less dry.

You can either stick with your morning moisturizer, or opt in for a night cream.  Granted, it might be heavier, which might clog your pores.  That is why you should also follow the morning routine credentials when shopping for a night cream. General rule of thumb for oily skin is to select a moisturizer that’s non-comedogenic, lightweight, and alcohol-free (water based)!

Step 4: Wear Sheet Masks

Definition: To hydrate your skin even further

For that extra boost of hydration, these sheet masks are a great way to do so.  Optionally, you can apply it in your morning routine, but if you're in a pinch, you could forget it.  However, according to Dr. Gerstner, you can still wear sheet masks in the evening, it all depends on the ingredients.  For the evening,  clarifying or exfoliating masks are great.  Read more about the best way to wear Sheet Masks for the best results!
